Brain Studies is a series of lumen prints made from MRI scans of my brain.
Lumen prints are made by exposing black and white gelatin silver paper with transparencies or objects set on the paper as with a photogram, but exposing the paper to UV light. This causes the paper to turn colors. The results are not always predicable as each paper emulsion reacts differently along with other variables playing a role in the final one-of-a-kind print.
Working with my brain scans, I am examining my psyche layer by layer. The occasional application of mixed media elements draws attention to
specific areas of concern. While these brain studies explore personal issues, it is my intent to bring a playful and colorful approach to these images that are usually viewed in black and white.
This series is still in progress. More will be added soon.
